Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

An important political figure stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
